We’re making personal tax season easier for you in 2024:

  • We’ve done away with our massive, online checklist. Instead, we’ve designed an optional “tax organizer” that is meant to guide you on what to send us. If you complete it, great; if not, no problem. We’ll complete your return based on the information you’ve sent us. If you’ve missed sending something, we can always amend your return later (additional charges apply).
  • We’ve set up a new “resources” page where you can download handy things like our new (optional) tax organizer, as well as spreadsheets to summarize things like medical expenses, donations, business income, rental income, etc… Staying organized and summarizing these common items for you avoid additional charges. Click here to access our personal tax resources page.
  • We’ll assume that your submission is complete the moment you send us your documents. Please WAIT to submit your documents to us until you have gathered everything. If we complete your return based on the information you sent us, and then you send in more information, we may have to rework your return (additional charges apply).

Steps to get moving on your taxes (sign, download, gather, prepare, upload):

  1. Review and sign your personal tax proposal, which we will send to you around February 15th. Completing this step lets us know you want to work with us again and puts you top of mind with us. This step can be completed right away, before you have all your information. Completing STEP 1 will turn off our automatic email reminders.
  2. Download copies of your tax organizer and any other resources you need from our personal tax resources page here: Personal Tax Resources (achenhenderson.ca)
  3. Gather all your documentation before submitting it. When you submit information to us we will assume it is complete and start working on your returns. If you send us more information after we have completed your returns, we’ll have to rework your returns and additional charges will apply.
  4. Prepare your documents so they can be uploaded, digitally, to our online secure file drop off. All the popular cloud storage apps have scanners built right into them (Adobe, OneDrive, Google Drive, Amazon Drive, Dropbox, “Files” app, etc…).
  5. Upload your documents to us using our secure online file drop off system here. When we receive your documents, we will assume they are complete and start your return.

Deadlines

Canadian T1s:

  • Regular T1s with no business incomes are due to be filed April 30, 2024
  • T1s with business income are due to be filed June 15, 2024, however your tax payments are still due April 30, 2024.

US returns:

  • Generally, US returns are due to be filed April 15, 2024, or June 15 for non-residents with rentals, gains, or business income.
  • The deadline for U.S. citizens living and working in Canada to file their U.S. taxes is June 15, however the tax due date is still April 15.
  • If you pay 90% or more of your estimated taxes owing, or you do not owe U.S. taxes, your return filing deadline may be extended up to October 15. Because of the volume and complexity of U.S. returns that we handle for our Canadian clients, we often take advantage of these extensions.
